Wide range of positions in tourism, hospitality and food & beverage available
HAMILTON, BERMUDA — Those interested in landing tourism and hospitality jobs in Bermuda have a final chance before the new year as the government prepares to host its second annual Hospitality Recruitment Drive on Wednesday, December 14.
The event is being brought about through a partnership between the Department of Workforce Development, Bermuda Hotel Association (BHA) and Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA).
The recruitment drive will feature a wide variety of jobs in hospitality and tourism.
An impressive roster of employers will attend the recruitment drive, including restaurant operators, with the hopes of interviewing and possibly hiring promising candidates on the spot.
Job fair organizers are encouraging all Bermudians who are keen to secure tourism and/or hospitality jobs for the 2023 season to take part and put their best foot forward.
While registration is not mandatory, jobseekers are encouraged to sign up online in advance on the Bermuda Job Board website.
The recruitment drive will be held at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club in the Princess Rooms.
Jobs up for grabs span a wide range of departments, including Food & Beverage, Culinary Arts, Housekeeping, Front Office, Recreational Services, Spa, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance and Engineering, among others.
A positive sign for tourism recovery
This final recruitment drive of the year comes as Bermuda, along with many countries in the region, is recovering from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, many Caribbean countries have rebounded swiftly, with nations like Jamaica recovering thousands of tourism jobs in this year alone as international travel once again resumed in earnest, this time with renewed vigour due to pent-up demand from years of pandemic-related lockdowns.
The government of Bermuda is encouraging local residents to attend.
While the pandemic encouraged many nations to diversify their economies in an effort to make their economies more resilient, tourism still plays an irreplaceable role in many Caribbean economies.
Bermudian Minister of Labour Jason Hayward spoke to this point as he announced the job fair.
“I thank the participating hotels and restaurants who have partnered with the government on this initiative,” Hayward said.
“I’m encouraging all Bermudians seeking employment to attend [the] employment recruitment event to learn more about the many career paths in the industry.”
But Minister Hayward also emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring local residents are able to secure jobs in the tourism and hospitality industry.
He noted, “In keeping with Bermuda’s National Jobs Strategy and Youth Employment Strategy, we must continue to engage with our hospitality stakeholders to ensure that the employment of Bermudians remains a priority…
“The government will continue to work to ensure that Bermudians can take advantage of hospitality jobs.”
