Public Service - Professional Engagement Programme to provide paid training that will lead to full-time employment
NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS — Scores of jobs in The Bahamas are about to become available for people with disabilities thanks to a new employment initiative soon to be launched.

This is according to Minister of State for the Public Service Pia Glover-Rolle, who emphasized that the community of people with disabilities in The Bahamas has gone overlooked for far too long.
A government statement noted, “The Ministry of Public Service has announced plans to include more persons with disabilities in its recruitment and staffing efforts.
“This initiative is a part of a wider revamping of the public service being driven by the ministry’s agenda for public service reform.”
New training programs to help more people get jobs in The Bahamas
Minister Glover-Rolle said the government’s new Public Service - Professional Engagement Programme will play a major role in helping to provide jobs to people with disabilities in the community.
Bahamian Minister of State for the Public Service Pia Glover-Rolle has said her ministry will hire more Bahamians with disabilities in the future.
The government outlined, “One of the key initiatives that will be used to spearhead the hiring of persons with disabilities is the recently announced Public Service - Professional Engagement Programme (PS-PEP).
“[This] will provide paid on-the-job training opportunities that will eventually lead to entry-level job placements and designated career paths for those who successfully matriculate through the programme.”
To this end, the state minister added, “Through the PS-PEP Programme, these persons will be provided with the training, support and any special considerations they may need to successfully enter, be productive and succeed within the public service.
“They will be positioned for the same career paths and merit-based progression opportunities that all public servants will have access to.
“It is an opportunity not just to get a job but to build a career.”
While the government did not provide details on when this initiative will begin, it is expected to make an announcement on the matter in the coming weeks.
More inclusive job opportunities
More Bahamians with disabilities will be able to work in the public service through the Public Service - Professional Engagement Programme.
The government’s intention through this initiative is to encourage more inclusive workplaces and workforces in The Bahamas.
According to its statement, as the public service hires more Bahamians with disabilities, they will also install appropriate infrastructure to facilitate greater accessibility.
Additionally, Minister Glover-Rolle noted, “For a long time, persons with disabilities have lamented the fact that their community is often ignored in the national dialogue…
“So, we know that through focusing on persons with disabilities, we are committing to a wider cultural change that will make the government a better place to work for everyone.”
