KINGSTON, JAMAICA — A U.S.-based Jamaican businesswoman is urging more Caribbean citizens to take advantage of lucrative opportunities to work overseas as there are a wealth of jobs available.
Kerry Ann Edwards is an accounting consultant by profession, but last summer she started her own recruiting business, KERG Consulting LLC, which has since continued to expand.

Through Edwards’ business, Caribbean natives are connected with U.S. employers seeking temp workers to come onboard on a contractual basis, spanning anywhere from three to nine months.
While most of the jobs available through KERG Consulting LLC were originally in the hospitality industry and only in Colorado, where Edwards is based, it has since ventured into other industries and at least five other states.
Additionally, Edwards said her company is “the complete package”, facilitating not only necessary documentation but also housing and transportation for workers who successfully sign on.
“I’m an all-rounder,” she explained. “Every location that I have, I ensure that there is housing for you and transportation for you to get to and back from work.
“It’s just like when you buy an airplane ticket, you get a rental car, you get your hotel — we are that.
“We provide the entire package for you.”
Why work abroad?
Money is a major draw for Caribbean citizens to work overseas in the U.S., Edwards said, noting that being paid in USD is a huge benefit for anyone from business professionals to university students.
“The money is good, so persons are going to do it,” she said.

Edwards added, “Students can work normally from May, when school’s out, to August, and they get a lot of money.
“Most of them work to pay their tuition off and they don’t need to use student loans, or some of them even buy cars.”
On top of that, workers can even take on two jobs, or apply for another contract after their initial one ends, to maximize their earnings.
“If you’re looking for temp services, we’re definitely here to help you,” Edwards assured, noting that she also wants to help more than just her fellow Jamaican nationals.
“I’ve decided not just to keep all this to Jamaica; I want to invite my community, my Caribbean community, in it too.”
