Four training projects for women funded in Belize; more than 40 women enrolled in training programme underway in St. Kitts & Nevis
BELMOPAN, BELIZE — The Republic of China in Taiwan is making moves in helping Caribbean women achieve gainful employment and financial freedom through its Women Employment, Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion project, which has recently funded relevant training initiatives in Belize and St. Kitts & Nevis.
Thanks to this project, four skills development programmes for women in Belize received funding; while in St. Kitts & Nevis, a vocational training programme for women was successfully launched.
In a ceremony to mark the occasion yesterday, the Government of Belize Press Office noted, “The ‘Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the COVID-19 Post-Pandemic Era: Technical Assistance for Women Employment, Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion’ project by the Republic of China (Taiwan) supports the implementation of vocational skills training through reputable organizations and institutions in Belize, as well as support for women empowerment in entrepreneurship.”
It added, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration, and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF), are committed to the continuation of the project to reach more women and micro, small and medium enterprises for Belize’s economic and social recovery.”
The four beneficiaries included Princess Royal Youth Hostel; Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management (SATIIM); the Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET) Belize City; and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment via BELTRAIDE, for an empowerment summit to “support and encourage female entrepreneurship and women leadership roles in business”.
More than 40 women undertake training in SKN
Over in St. Kitts & Nevis, the women’s empowerment training programme funded by the Republic of China in Taiwan kicked off earlier this month. The Ministry of Social Development & Gender Affairs noted an “overwhelming show of interest” as more than 40 women signed up for the programme.
“Many women are enhancing their knowledge and skills through the presentations offered in this seven-week vocational training programme, the first cohort of a women's empowerment project funded by the Republic of China in Taiwan,” the ministry said.
For its part, the St. Kitts & Nevis Embassy for the Republic of China in Taiwan said it is “a firm believer in enabling all members of the society to fully realize their potential”.
“This year-long initiative will make considerable positive changes in the empowerment of local women employees and entrepreneurs,” it said.
