US Hospitality Workers’ Programme launched in Barbados
BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — Opportunities to work abroad continue to increase for Caribbean jobseekers, as a trend of foreign workers looking to this region to recruit continues.
We recently noted a marked uptick in foreign companies specifically turning to the Caribbean to recruit new workers.
This is especially the case for the United Kingdom, which has been dealing with severe labour shortages. However, it also applies for businesses in the United States.
Most recently, a North American company is seeking Barbadians to sign on for hospitality jobs based in the United States.
Hospitality jobs for Barbadians
Jobseeking Barbadians have until next Wednesday to put their best foot forward for a chance to live and work in the US under a Hospitality Workers programme.
Barbados has introduced its US Hospitality Workers’ Programme for Barbadians to live and work abroad.
In a notice, the Barbados government said, “The Barbados Employment and Career Counselling Service (BECCS) is requesting interested persons to submit resumes for the US Hospitality Workers’ Programme.
“Job opportunities are available in the following categories: food service workers, cooks and public area attendants.”
Only Barbadians who are at least 18 years old and who have a valid passport and clean police record are eligible to apply.
Additionally, applicants are preferred to have at least one year of relevant job experience and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Interested parties are asked to email their resume to beccsjobs@labour.gov.bb no later than Wednesday, August 10, with the desired job as the subject of the email.
The BECCS also asked jobseekers not to physically visit their office as a safety precaution against COVID-19.
Strong competition for Caribbean labour
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO Joseph Boll.
As Caribbean Employment Services Inc. previously noted, Caribbean labour is in high demand given the current labour market overseas.
However, at the same time, this means Caribbean workers are in the ideal position to take advantage of attractive work abroad opportunities.
Just within the past few months alone, Caribbean Employment Services Inc. has noted competitive recruitment in the Caribbean from employers in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
We noted that this could be a beneficial opportunity for Caribbean natives to secure high-paying jobs in foreign currencies that may be stronger than or on par with that of their own home country.
