Last job fair of the year to focus on hospitality industry jobs, including chefs, technicians, housekeepers, bartenders and more
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s (MLSS) final job fair for 2021 is set for next week and Director of the Electronic Labour Exchange (ELE) Lyndon Ford is urging members of the public to participate in this last chance to become gainfully employed before the new year.
“While I encourage every person in Jamaica to be a part of the labour market information system, I am going to reiterate that it is absolutely important that persons who have been affected by COVID-19, may have lost jobs through redundancies and layoffs and have the requisite skills to post their resume and utilize the employment portal in terms of the skills database as a means of getting back into the labour market,” Ford said.

In a government statement announcing the fair, Ford was quoted as saying that job opportunities become available daily, and he particularly wanted to encourage “individuals who lost their jobs due to the pandemic and other trained hospitality workers from the disabled community” — as well as those living in Trelawny, St. Mary and Hanover — to participate.
“The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will host another in the series of job fairs to provide jobs for Jamaicans, especially those who are seeking employment in the hospitality sector,” the statement read.
“The final job fair for 2021 is scheduled to take place from December 28 to 30.”
Job fair to feature highly sought-after hospitality positions
According to the MLSS, the last job fair was a tremendous success as more than 70 percent of the participating jobseekers who were shortlisted were “hired immediately”.

“Jobseekers with the skill set such as sous chefs, chefs, maintenance technicians, housekeepers, bartenders, waiters, carpenters, plumbers, AC technicians, preventive maintenance managers, maintenance software administrators and restaurant managers are being encouraged to submit an application,” its statement outlined.
It further quoted Director Forbes as suggesting such positions are “highly sought-after”, and “with the country slowly reopening, there are several job opportunities in terms of vacancies at different hotels across several parishes at this time”.
Forbes said, “We are therefore asking persons who have the requisite skills and experience to upload their resumes to facilitate them having access to be a part of our job fair.”
Interested jobseekers are required to visit the MLSS employment portal and register through the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) at www.lmis.gov.jm.
However, only those shortlisted will be invited for an interview.
