Jamaica’s Ministry of Labour to host 2-day job fair

Multiple employers will be on-site to conduct interviews on the spot

KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Anyone looking for jobs in Jamaica is being encouraged to take advantage of a two-day job fair being hosted by the Ministry of Labour today and tomorrow in Kingston.

According to a statement from the government, multiple employers will be on hand conducting interviews and possibly hiring on the spot for a wide range of positions.

Potential candidates who want to attend are being asked to bring the following documents:

  • Physical copies of their resume
  • Proof of relevant qualifications
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • National Insurance Scheme (NIS) card
  • Tax Registration Number (TRN) card

Conversely, attendees can also help to make the process faster for themselves and others by starting their registration online via the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) website at lmis.gov.jm.

Jobseekers can create a profile on the LMIS website and upload their resume for employers to review, or email a copy of their resume to customerservice@lmis.gov.jm before the job fairs start.

The job fairs will be held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s office on 1F North Street in Kingston, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18.

LMIS hopes to help more people apply for jobs in Jamaica

In encouraging jobseekers to register on the LMIS website, Director of the Electronic Labour Exchange (ELE) Lyndon Ford said the group hopes to reach a wider range of qualified Jamaican workers.

“What the [ministry] is doing is providing more access to people who may otherwise not have the opportunity, such as the disabled community and those who are at risk,” Ford noted.

Even further, he said that registering is not just a one-time event for one job only.

“Once you have the relevant skill sets that are transferable and can be used in the labour market, the ministry is providing the avenue for jobseekers,” he added.

The wide range of job opportunities available through LMIS is reflected in the jobs that are up for grabs at the job fairs.

According to the government, businesses will be looking to hire:

    • Accountants
    • Assistant store managers
    • Auditors
    • Butchers
    • Call center agents
    • Call center supervisors
