Hotels gearing up to hire staff ahead of 2022 tourism season
HAMILTON, BERMUDA — Nearly 800 Bermudians were pre-registered and attended a job recruitment drive in the nation’s capital recently, with Minister of Education Diallo Rabain hinting that the initiative could become an annual event.
The recruitment drive was a collaboration between the Department of Workforce Development, the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) and the Bermuda Hotel Association (BHA), with a particular focus on hiring workers in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Rabain, serving as acting premier, said he was “pleased” with the turnout of “over 780 people pre-registered for the event”.
“This government is committed to getting the economy back on track, and events such as these which support employment opportunities for our residents are very positive,” he said.
“The hospitality trade is vital to Bermuda and requires Bermudians to be a part of it. The willingness of our hotel partners to show their commitment to hiring Bermudians is to be commended.
“I am proud of all my fellow Bermudians that came out to register their interests and make job applications on the spot.
“I look forward to this event's positive outcome and am encouraged by the discussions about this becoming an annual event.”
The minister thanked all partners involved in the job recruitment drive, including BTA CEO Charles Jeffers, who ahead of the recruitment drive noted, “We are preparing the sector for the staffing needs of 2022 and beyond, providing jobs and training for Bermudians and getting the island ready for the injection of visitors we expect in the year ahead.”
Bermudians encouraged to join tourism sector
With the job recruitment drive’s focus on the hotel industry, positions were open for jobs such as servers, housekeepers, bartenders, administrators, and more.
Additionally, major hoteliers participated, with representatives on site to schedule interviews and provide more details on the jobs available.

Speaking to what such an event means for Bermuda “as we enter 2022 and move towards the start of our tourism season”, Minister of Labour Jason Hayward said, “Tourism is an essential cornerstone of Bermuda’s economy, employing thousands across the island.”
He asserted that “there are many career opportunities in tourism” as he encouraged “any Bermudian who is unemployed or seeking alternative employment opportunities” to pursue available roles.
According to a BHA spokesperson, the recruitment drive was held to encourage residents to “play a vital part” in the tourism sector “as we collectively work to rebuild and grow the economy”.
