Jamaica’s BPO industry continues bringing in hundreds of stable jobs for residents
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — The recent expansion of a successful business process outsourcing company means some 1,500 more jobs in Jamaica have been secured, with the possibility for even more to come onstream in the future.

It already had several locations throughout the Caribbean and in Jamaica, and has now opened up its fifth facility in the country.
A statement from the government of Jamaica noted: “Jamaica’s business process outsourcing sector continues to expand, with IBEX Global Jamaica opening its new location in Portmore, St. Catherine, on [July 5], providing employment for an additional 1,500 people.”
That number could grow even further in the future, as IBEX Jamaica Senior VP of Operations Tamara Ricketts-Brown noted the country’s wealth of qualified candidates.
She said: “With a workforce exceeding 6,000 dedicated individuals, we remain committed to fostering business growth and establishing Jamaica as the premier business services and technology hub of the Caribbean.”
BPO jobs in Jamaica are booming
Jamaican Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill said Jamaica’s services sector, inclusive of BPO, is “ probably the fastest growing sector in the country.”
The services sector encompasses jobs that provide services rather than direct goods. It includes jobs like call center agents, bankers, consultants and more.
BPO is one of Jamaica's fastest-growing industries.
Minister Hill said: “According to the latest statistics, the BPO or the global digital services sector in Jamaica employs 60,000 or more people.
“Today, this is a momentous occasion as it marks another milestone in our journey towards becoming a global leader in the sector.”
In fact, the minister said the BPO sector has grown 20 percent throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which was a notoriously difficult economic period in the country.
By the end of 2022, Jamaica’s HEART/NSTA Trust found that there had been a “270 percent increase in the number of jobs created” in services over a five-year period.
Experts have projected that the services industry would be the economic sector that keeps Jamaica afloat while tourism is recovering, and the immense growth it continues to experience seems to evidence that prediction indeed being the case.
