At least 24 positions up for grabs
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — With the cruise industry off to a successful restart in The Bahamas after months of inactivity, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) announced that it will be hosting a virtual job fair to fill some 24 positions at its widely acclaimed private island Perfect Day at CocoCay on the Berry Islands.
The job fair is set to take place on Monday, October 4, starting at 9 a.m., and will seek to fill four positions in human resources (HR) in addition to up to 20 lifeguard positions.

The human resources positions include an HR specialist, HR administrator, HR training manager and a department head who will be tasked with managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, learning compensation, benefits and human resources systems.
While the job fair is virtual, potential new hires who apply for a lifeguard position will be required to undergo a rigorous swim test in which they will be asked to swim 100 meters, retrieve a weight from the bottom of the pool and tread water without using their hands for a certain amount of time.
According to a company policy noted on RCI’s website, employees are also required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Cindy Williams-Johnson, Royal Caribbean’s senior manager of talent attraction, said this latest hiring spree is part of the cruise line’s long-time commitment to hire Bahamians.
“We have more than doubled our Bahamian staff numbers in the last few years, despite the pandemic that kept us anchored for months,” Williams-Johnson noted.
The cruise line went from aiming to hire 200 Bahamians in 2018 to employing more than 300 in 2019, and by the summer of 2021, that staff complement had ballooned to over 600.

The senior manager continued, “With strong bookings for the spring and summer, and our desire to hire even more Bahamians at Perfect Day at CocoCay, we are pulling out all the stops to attract individuals who want a career with a company that offers opportunity and great upward mobility.”
As Williams-Johnson urged all interested Bahamians to apply, she hinted at the possibility of new employees being reassigned to other locations outside of CocoCay.
“The Bahamian who is a lifeguard near their home in the Berry Islands one season may end up working on a ship, if they choose, probably halfway around the world two seasons later,” she explained.
