Jobseekers must register online to attend
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Jamaican jobseekers have an opportunity to put their best foot forward and get hired this Thursday as the Ministry of Labour and Social Security hosts a job fair in St. Ann Parish.
The job fair is set to be held at the ministry’s office at 4 Windsor Road, St. Ann’s Bay, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A wide variety of positions are up for grabs, ranging from entry-level to management and possibly more.
Additionally, vacancies span several industries, including hospitality but not exclusively.
Representatives from some big-name companies will also be present at the job fair, prepared to accept candidates’ applications and possibly interview — and even hire successful candidates — on the spot.
Companies to participate in the St. Ann job fair include, but are not limited to:
- Bahia Principe
- Burger King
- Island Grill
- Knutsford Express
- Ocean by H10 Hotels
- and more
Meanwhile, vacancies include several food and beverage positions, such as restaurant managers and supervisors, all categories of chefs/cooks, pizza makers and meat cutters.
But there are also a host of vacancies across a wide span of other fields, such as customer service representatives and sales representatives, cashiers, accounts clerks, administrative assistants, warehouse attendants and merchandisers.
Several businesses are also looking to hire security guards, CCTV operators, toll operators, dancers, housekeepers/nannies and public area attendants.
Other management positions up for grabs include route sales supervisors, branch managers and administrative managers.
Further, there are also openings that require technical skills, such as carpenters, maintenance technicians and more.
Jobseeker requirements for job fair
However, jobseekers who want to attend Thursday’s job fair are also asked to cooperate with certain requirements from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
To start with, participants must first register online at the Labour Market Information System’s (LMIS) website to be permitted entry into the event.
A government notice concerning the job fair advised, “If you are interested in attending, go to www.lmis.gov.jm and create a jobseeker account, upload your resume and register for the job fair in the 'Events' section.
“Or, send your resume to email@example.com.
“Once your resume has been submitted, you are welcome to attend.”
Additionally, jobseekers who attend the fair are asked to bring the relevant documents needed to apply for job openings or be interviewed on the spot.
This includes two or more physical copies of their resume, two references, proof of qualifications, two passport-sized photos, their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) card, Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and their food handler's permit, if applicable.
