KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Jobseekers looking for teaching jobs in Jamaica now have a new resource they can tap into as the Ministry of Education has officially launched a job bank exclusively dedicated to teachers.

The new portal will serve as a hub for public sector job vacancies in education, with both the ministry and individual public schools able to post openings as they arise.

Jamaican Minister of Education Fayval Williams noted that the portal is intended to help streamline the recruitment and hiring process within the public school system.

She added that she hopes many jobseekers and schools will take advantage of this new platform.

“We are very excited about this…” Williams said.

“We are encouraging our schools to use the portal… for efficiency.

“I know it costs a lot for you to put an ad in the paper.

“So, you can avoid spending that money and utilize this portal that anybody can see.”

A necessary upgrade for teaching jobs in Jamaica

Williams described the new platform as something the education system needed in the country to help with recruitment.

Her comments align with the assessment of the World Bank, which lamented a lack of adequate talent acquisition services throughout the Caribbean region in general.

The platform works similarly to the way Caribbean Employment’s does, in that it allows jobseekers to:

    • Create a profile
    • Upload their resume
    • Search and apply for job openings

However, a key difference is that the ministry’s job board is exclusively for openings within the public school system and in Jamaica only.

On the other, Caribbean Employment Services Inc.’s job board is inclusive of employers in the public and private sectors, as well as employers located in Jamaica, within any Caribbean country and even abroad.

Minister Williams did note that the ministry’s portal will allow anybody “looking to enter the education system” who may be located on another side of the island to see openings and apply.

However, she suggested that this would be more useful for someone looking to relocate rather than for remote opportunities.

Nonetheless, Williams explained, “It’s a new development in the education sector where schools can advertise for the positions they need.

“Those who are looking for positions in the education sector can upload their resumes…

“So take this opportunity. Schools and boards, I want you to encourage the principals to highlight their schools in the job bank portal.”

School administrators and others responsible for hiring will be able to view resumes, shortlist qualified applicants and communicate directly with candidates.
